Celebrating 35 Years of Service to GRM as Co-Founder Dr Bill Peacock Retires

Last week marked the end of an era for GRM with the retirement of the co-founder Dr Bill Peacock. Bill established GRM (then Ground Risk Management) with Chris Jerram in 1991, and Chris retired in 2018. More on GRM’s history can be found here: https://www.grm-uk.com/about-us/history/

Bill weathered recessions, a global pandemic and many other industry challenges during his tenure as Managing Director. In 2024 he handed over the GRM Director reins to Geoff and Richard, more recently acting as a part-time consultant on his path to retirement: https://www.grm-uk.com/grm-announce-change-in-ownership/

He has always remained very mindful of the importance in maintaining a healthy work-life balance, and recognises the sacrifices made in the early years to establish the business with a young family at home. He is looking forward to spending more time with his partner Jo, visiting family and has plans to travel including a camper van trip across Europe and an extended trip to New Zealand. His mantra was ‘remember its only work’, and the importance of being able to switch off (not to mention getting some sleep!).

Bill can be very proud of the company he helped to create and recalled that he never imagined it would grow to the size it has today, whilst still managing to feel family orientated. Luckily, he saw past Chris’ dislike of systems and recognised the importance of having some structure as the company grew. Staff have come and gone over the years (although many have stayed) and Bill has enjoyed seeing people’s careers develop (one of the benefits of social media such as LinkedIn).

Bill always welcomed innovation and ideas, as ways to improve efficiency and also stay current / ahead of the game (whilst these ideas weren’t always taken up, several are still in use today).

We helped to see him off in style with a buffet lunch, cake and a few parting gifts including a voucher for a motorhome weekend to make sure he likes it before taking Europe by storm, he then went on to celebrate his 65th birthday at the weekend surrounded by family, friends and colleagues from across the years.

Enjoy your retirement Bill!
