GRM are an equal opportunities employer.
We know that a career is about more than just the job. With over 30 years of experience as a multi-disciplinary consultancy, we understand it is also about professional and personal development, being part of a supportive team and being based somewhere that adds to your quality of life. That is why working at our Burton upon Trent head office offers such a strong combination of rewarding technical work, a friendly team culture and a central, well-connected location full of opportunity.
Our Team of around 50 multi-disciplinary professionals includes structural engineers, environmental scientists, hydrogeologists, geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists, foundation engineers, AutoCAD technicians, site technicians and administrative support staff.
GRM has a strong and stable workforce, with an average length of service of over 10 years. At the same time, we are committed to supporting and training the next generation of engineers, with approximately 20% of our team having graduated from university within the last three years. Our employees range in age from 22 to 75, with around 25% under the age of 30. We are also proud to have a number of long-serving colleagues who have been with GRM for more than 20 years, bringing valuable experience, continuity and knowledge to the business.
Our office is at Laurus House on Centrum 100 in Burton upon Trent (DE14 2WH), placing us in a highly accessible Midlands location. Burton is well positioned for people travelling from Derby, Nottingham, Birmingham, Lichfield and the surrounding Staffordshire and Derbyshire areas. The office benefits from strong road connections, with the A38 just two minutes away and the A50 also nearby, as well as rail links from Burton-on-Trent station. The quickest trains to Nottingham and Birmingham take around 30 minutes, while Derby and Lichfield are approximately 12 miles away by road.
Burton itself is a historic town with a proud brewing heritage, good shopping and leisure facilities and easy access to open space. For evenings and weekends, colleagues are close to the National Forest, Branston Water Park, the River Trent, the Peak District and a wide choice of nearby towns and cities. It offers the practicality of a central base without the cost often associated with larger urban centres.
The town is also growing. Major regeneration plans include the Old Brewery Quarter and wider Towns Fund investment, aimed at improving leisure, heritage, town-centre living and visitor attractions. The nearby Branston Locks development, visible from our office, is also set to deliver around 2,500 new homes and significant commercial space, demonstrating confidence in Burton’s long-term future.
With good value for money, strong connectivity, nearby countryside and continued investment, Burton upon Trent is an excellent place to build both a career and a lifestyle. For people looking to join a supportive technical consultancy in a well-connected Midlands location, GRM offers a compelling place to work, learn and grow.
If you are going to commit 40 hours of your life every week working in a professional industry, then surely you want to choose a company that cares about you? We get that. It’s why we ensure there is a career path, training program and mentor scheme so you can continue to develop. We also support hybrid working, run regular social events, encourage a relaxed dress code and supply creature comforts like a well-stocked kitchen (and yes, there is cake!).
Why take our word for it? We perform regular staff surveys so we know we’re doing things right (and also to make sure to fix the things we are not) and you can read more about that below.
