Courtney Blockley-Campton Elected as a Chartered Geologist by the Geological Society of London

We are delighted to announce that Courtney Blockley-Campton, Acting Principal Geotechnical Engineer at GRM, has qualified as a Chartered Geologist.

Courtney has been working at GRM for 12 years, and holds Masters Degrees in both Geology and Geotechnical Engineering. This latest career milestone was finalised earlier this month when he was elected as a Chartered Geologist by the Geological Society of London (GSL).

The ‘Chartered’ designation indicates a professional practitioner who has been peer assessed as having key professional competencies and experience in their field of practice. The validation process requires the applicant to be a Fellow of the GSL and to demonstrate competency in a range of aspects. Information reviewed as part of the process includes:

  • A report detailing the applicant’s professional development, including where and when the required experience and skills were gained.
  • An overview of how they fulfil each of the seven GSL competency criteria.
  • Submission of supporting documents to demonstrate competency.
  • A minimum three-year record of continued professional development (CPD).
  • A supporting statement from a Chartered Geologist who is familiar with the applicant’s work.
  • An interview with GSL Chartership assessors which includes the applicant giving a presentation on their work.

Courtney’s submission and presentation focused on the competency of engineering geology and included detailed information on historic mining, landslides, slopes and earthworks.

Courtney joins a growing list of GRM employees who have obtained their Chartership, including:

  • Geoffrey Beckett (CGeol)
  • Richard Upton (CEnv)
  • Bill Peacock (CGeol)
  • Siobhan Jackson (CEnv)
  • Andrew Brown (CGeol)
  • Robert Crossland (CGeol)
  • Ian McCulloch (CGeol)

We hope this latest achievement will also inspire some of our newer team members to continue with their career development and professional qualifications. We actively encourage this and are proud of our on-going staff training program, which includes an accredited Geological Society training scheme. This involves a combination of in-house experts who are always keen to share their knowledge and experiences with other team members, and external providers where specialist training is required.
