Wet Weather Week for GRM Teams – Both Above and Below Ground!

Our senior geologist/hydrogeologist, Sonia Singh, still likes to get her (nitrile glove-wearing) hands dirty on site, as shown in the headline photo. Sonia was demonstrating the use of low-flow water sampling equipment to another GRM engineer on a site where there is a potential for volatile contamination.

GRM provides specialised environmental services, including groundwater risk assessments, monitoring, and contamination remediation to support construction and development.

Key Aspects of GRM Groundwater Services include:

  • Groundwater Risk Assessment and Detailed Quantitative Risk Assessment: Conduct assessments for potential risks, such as for landfill sites and cemeteries, to ensure compliance with environmental regulations (see previous article: Potential New Cemetery Requires Groundwater Risk Assessment). Work also includes modelling contaminants using the Environment Agency’s Remedial Targets Methodology (P20) and ConSim to derive site-specific remedial targets and remedial options appraisal.
  • Groundwater Monitoring: Monitor water levels and quality to manage risks to the environment and infrastructure and to facilitate construction, including recommendations for dewatering techniques such as sump pumping or well pointing.
  • Contamination Investigation: Site-specific chemical analysis of groundwater (and surface water as required) to identify contaminants (for example on brownfield sites).
  • Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS): Undertake soakage testing (to BRE 365) and collaborate with drainage engineers to determine if soils are suitable for infiltration drainage (more information: Soakaway Testing).
  • Remediation and Validation: Offer strategies to manage sensitive environmental issues, such as light non-aqueous phase (LNAPL) pollution, to maximise land potential.

If you have any development or construction projects, then please get in touch to find out how we can help save both time and costs. Please use your main point of contact at GRM or for new enquiries email richard.upton@grm-uk.com or call 01283 551249.
