Increase in ‘Approval In Principle’ Work for GRM Team

An Approval in Principle (AIP) is a specialist engineering document for structures that are being constructed on or near highways. AIPs typically containing general arrangement drawings, technical schedules and other relevant information for Local Authority submission and approval.

AIPs are typically required for structures such as bridges, tunnels, subways, culverts, retaining walls, reinforced earth structures, gantries, buried corrugated steel structures and temporary structures.

The Design Team at GRM have extensive experience and expertise supporting clients with all aspects of their AIP. This includes a wide range of diagrams, documents and schedules including:

  • A description of the structure and details of the category.
  • Details of the adjacent roads and highways.
  • A schedule of applicable design standards.
  • Requirements for road restraint systems.
  • Conceptual drawings.
  • Additional information that may be required by the relevant technical authority.

Our team can also undertake site supervision and inspection during the construction phase to ensure compliance with the AIP documents. Once the design is complete and we check it, then we produce a Design Check Certificate certifying that your chosen constructors have complied with the Approval in Principal documents and that reasonable professional care was taken during construction.

The team is led by Dr Mohamed Diriye, a Chartered Structural Engineer with 25 years of experience in the UK and internationally. He has worked in all sectors on an extensive range of projects including residential developments, commercial construction projects, and sports and leisure stadia.

Our Structural Team are supported by in-house Geotechnical Engineers, Geologists, and Site Inspectors. Their understanding of ground conditions reduces the risk for clients and means that we can react quickly to unforeseen construction issues.

This is coupled with our end-to-end service which includes land appraisal and ground investigation. This means larger projects can all be managed under one roof, saving time, cost and confusion.
