We are delighted to announce that George Salloway, Senior Geo-Environmental Scientist at GRM, has qualified as a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv).
George has been working at GRM for 13 years and holds both a BSc (Hons) and a MSc. This latest career milestone was finalised earlier this month when he was awarded Chartered status by the Society for the Environment.
The ‘Chartered’ designation indicates a professional practitioner who has been peer assessed as having key professional competencies and experience in their field of practice. The validation process requires the applicant to be a Member or Fellow of the Institution of Environmental Sciences (IES, a constituent body of Society for the Environment) and have masters level degree or equivalent level of knowledge and to be able to demonstrate competency in a range of aspects. Information reviewed as part of the process includes:
- A report detailing the applicant’s professional development, including where and when the required experience and skills were gained and how they relate to the SocEnv core and subset competencies.
- Submission of a long form CV outlining relevant academic and work experience cross referenced against the SocEnv competencies.
- Undertake a professional review interview with Society for the Environment assessors which includes the applicant giving a presentation on case studies of their work.
- Agree to comply with the IES and SocEnv Code of Ethics and ongoing CPD.
- A supporting witness statement from a Chartered Environmentalist who is familiar with the applicant’s work.
George joins a growing list of GRM employees who have obtained their Chartership, including:
Geoffrey Beckett (CGeol)
Richard Upton (CEnv)
Siobhan Jackson (CEnv)
Lorraine Kent (CEng)
Courtney Campton (CGeol)
Robert Crossland (CGeol)
Ian McCulloch (CGeol)
We hope this latest achievement will also inspire some of our newer team members to continue with their career development and professional qualifications. We actively encourage this and are proud of our on-going staff training program, which includes a range of accredited training schemes. This involves a combination of in-house experts who are always keen to share their knowledge and experiences with other team members, and external providers where specialist training is required.
