Living and working at GRM – Welwyn Garden City

GRM’s South Eastern office, which opened in 2018, is in Welwyn Garden City. Managed by Chartered Geologist Deborah Ashton, it is ideally located for our clients across the South East of England.

It is a convenient distance from London, being only 20 miles from the centre and a 30-minute train journey into King’s Cross. There are also plenty of public transport links to neighbouring towns and Heathrow Airport.

Welwyn is one of several Garden Cities that were developed in the early 20th Century with the ethos of designing a town for healthy living, designed to combine the benefits of the city and countryside. Although the town has grown in the intervening years, that ethos remains. Parkway, the backbone of the town, contains a large park with fountains and seating areas, good for picnics in the summer. At nearby Stanborough Park Lakes there are opportunities for boating, walking and swimming in a pretty recreational spot. There are lots of facilities for indoor activities too, and the Gosling Sports Centre boats a dry ski slope, tennis and football pitches, an athletics track and a velodrome.

There is a lively local music scene, the popular Alexandra Palace is a short train ride away and Welwyn itself has a local choir and orchestra perform in the Barn Theatre, which is a Grade II listed building.

Welwyn is also well equipped for schools, with five in the city itself and more in the general Welwyn Hatfield area. The University of Hertfordshire is also in nearby Hatfield.

Amidst the recent resurgence in the Garden City ethos – of sustainability, pedestrian-friendly cities and the popularity of ‘small village’ developments – Welwyn remains a great place to live. We are very happy for our branch office to be located here!
