Current guidance requires, where possible, the use of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS) for surface water drainage.
To design the surface water drainage system, the drainage engineer will require confirmation of the permeability of shallow soils. GRM can assess the potential for SUDS to be suitable at the Phase I Desk Study stage or can undertake permeability / soakaway testing at the Phase II stage.
GRM routinely carry out soakaway testing in accordance with current guidance (including BRE 365, CIRIA 159 and Building Regulations Part H). The permeability / infiltration rate is then provided to the infrastructure designers for incorporation into the overall drainage strategy / design.
SUDS are not just limited to soakaway drainage click here for further information.
Permeability / infiltration rates can form an integral part of a Flood Risk Assessment (FRA).
