Ensuring that we have fully trained employees is imperative for GRM, which is why when you work for us; you will receive training to support your career progression.
We love employing new graduates, and over the last 7 years have employed over 20 into our environmental, geological and geotechnical teams.
We pay membership fees to professional bodies, including; The Geological Society, Institute of Environmental Science and the Institute of Structural Engineers, supporting you towards Chartered Status through our accredited training matrix. Our Operations Director, is even a Scrutineer for the Geological Society – so where better place to get advice?
Using a combination of internal and external training, you will be trained to work in line with current guidance including British Standards, giving you a solid foundation on which to build your skills as you progress through your career.
We also believe in the importance of hands-on training, and so our policy is to get new graduates onto site as early as possible to get an understanding of investigation works and construction sites. This makes report writing so much easier, as you will understand the link between what happens on site and what goes into the report and how it best serves out clients.
GRM invest in our employees, with examples including:
- Laura Hill, who started her GRM career in our Admin Team expressed an interest in a vacancy in our Foundation Design Team. GRM encouraged Laura with in-house and on the job training, a move which has paid off for both GRM and Laura who has recently been promoted to Senior CAD Technician.
- Sam Dempsey came from the local Paget Sixth Form College and will hopefully follow in Laura’s footsteps as he goes through the same training programme. Geologist, Alistair, completed a Drone Pilot course and gained his accreditation with us.
- Engineering Geologist Sonia Singh is currently undertaking a part-time MSc in Hydrogeology at the University of Birmingham, which will support our specialist services.
We have had two recent successes, with Structural Technician, Chris Warner graduating in November 2019 with a HNC in Civil Engineering, from Nottingham College and Senior Engineering Geologist, Courtney Blockley-Campton, who received his MSc in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Birmingham.
No matter where you fit within the GRM family, we encourage continued professional development through a combination of; self-learning, specific training, further educational and vocational courses as we want all employees to reach their full potential.
