The construction and demolition industry annually produces three times the amount of waste generated by all UK households combined. Site Waste Management Plans allow better waste management practices, help to reduce the amount of waste produced and identify best environmental disposal options. Implementing a Site Waste Management Plan (SWMP) can reduce costs (increasing business profits) and maximise resource efficiency.
The SWMP Code of Practice was launched on 8th July 2004 to help the construction industry face the major challenge of changes in waste management legislation. The DTI are now considering the introduction of mandatory SWMP as part of the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 with regulations expected to be fully in force by April 2008.
GRM is a consultancy working with developers to assess risks and produce cost-effective design solutions for all developments. In addition to our core business areas of contaminated land assessment and remediation, our environmental department has extensive experience of construction-related waste management, conducting site audits and developing environmental management systems.
You can benefit from our wide range of expertise and holistic approach to waste management through feasibility, evaluation and costing. You will have practical advice and a realistic plan ensuring your construction waste is managed as effectively as possible.
We can help you by implementing a SWMP that complies with the current Code of Practice, to:
We will carry out a full waste audit to develop a SWMP that includes advice on how to reduce waste and identify best disposal routes. We can also provide guidance in staff training and development of marketing materials to raise waste awareness.
