Services GRM's Bioremediation Service

Why GRM?

GRM's expert knowledge and commercial experience enables the development of effective remedial strategies for a variety of contaminated sites. No matter what complexities arise, GRM can devise a remedial solution to satisfy the regulatory authorities and ensure that the land is remediated to a standard suitable for its intended use.

GRM will manage every aspect of the project, from the formulation of a Detailed Quantitative Risk Assessment (DQRA) and development of remedial targets, through to management of the tendering process, remedial site supervision, validation and completion reporting.

GRM's comprehensive service ensures that remedial targets, budgets and timescales are achieved within the client's development schedule.

Which remedial technique is best for me?

Our experience and reputation in this field has enabled GRM to supply a range of innovative technologies which can remediate a wide range of contaminants.

In line with our policy of waste minimisation, GRM endeavour to reduce the volume of materials taken to landfill through the use of both in-situ and ex-situ remediation techniques. Thereby limiting the environmental impact and reducing our client's financial outlay.

In-situ bioremediation

This technique is employed for deep lying contamination which has often entered groundwater and migrated beyond the site boundaries. In such cases, in-situ vapour extraction and air sparging systems are best employed for the removal of such contamination.

In-situ bioremediation projects are often very complex and extensive risk assessment, field trials and regulatory liaison are prudent. GRM will ensure that approvals are obtained rapidly, delays are reduced and the impact on the client's development schedule is minimised.

GRM's previous in-situ bioremediation projects include a number of former petrol stations, industrial sites and dry-cleaning works which have suffered major spillages or leaks, often over a number of years.

Ex-situ bioremediation

At any one time, GRM can be involved in a number of ex-situ bioremediation projects - examples include an old engineering works in the West Midlands, a haulage depot in Carlisle and disused warehousing on London's Olympic development area. Ex-situ bioremediation involves the excavation of the affected material prior to treatment in a bio-pile and continued on-site treatment until the material is validated as suitable for re-use on site.

Large scale projects

GRM's bioremediation experience includes the assessment and remediation of large industrial sites for commercial and residential developers. GRM has developed remedial strategies for sites including former chemical works, smokeless fuel plants, landfill sites, engineering works and brick works. In some cases, contaminant concentrations are so high that off-site disposal or incineration is the only option.

In these circumstances, GRM implements a combination of methods, disposing of only the most hazardous waste materials and utilising on-site techniques in designated treatment hubs, allowing demolition and development work to continue without delay.

In-situ treatment of groundwater and contaminated soils can be incorporated into the final design, and if capped by development platforms, treatment can continue long after development works have been completed.

GRM's flexibility and innovative thinking allows clients to develop and market their sites at the earliest possible stage, increasing turnover, profitability and preventing delays.

Client satisfaction

GRM enjoy a challenge and will work to find a solution for even the most complex of problems. GRM's experience continually highlights the need for clear communication with clients. At project commencement, GRM will work closely with the client, regulatory authorities, and other contractors to create innovative and tailored solutions that fulfill the interests of all parties involved. GRM will investigate a whole range of contamination issues on any scale, and will offer a turnkey, fixed-price, all-risk contract to suit our client needs.

GRM will also work within a client's schedule and ensure that all work is completed to agreed deadlines, allowing for the development or re-sale to continue as planned.
